Golf Courses
Named after its location, this 640-acre park has 2 lakes, 3 golf courses, the popular Palm Island, an auditorium, and a variety of other sports and leisure amenities. This park also has plenty of picnic areas, but it can get crowded on weekends and holidays.
The course on Warner (between Brookhurst and Euclid) is a good challenge with tree-lined bending fairways. This is a good track for beginners as well as the advanced player.
There is a nice 15-acre natural park area tucked away in this park that you can’t even find by just driving through the golf course section of the park. It is a great place for a run. There are also a number of basketball courts and a tennis court. This is a popular park for residents of Fountain Valley and surrounding communities. It is also host to many Vietnamese community events including the Tet Festival and the Spring Roll Parade.
Parks
Incorporated in 1957, Fountain Valley is a well-planned urban community with tree-lined streets and an abundance of parks. The 640-acre Mile Square Regional Park is one of the city’s most popular attractions for both residents and visitors. The park has multiple golf courses, soccer, baseball, and softball fields as well as fishing lakes.
There are also two playgrounds in the park, one located near the lake (Freedom Lake) closest to Edinger and Euclid and the other in the middle of the park near the smaller lake (South Lake). The park is a great place for a stroll or a healthy power walk.
The park offers fishing in the lake (stocks Rainbow Trout during the winter and Catfish during the summer) as well as many other recreational activities such as hiking, biking, jogging, picnicking, and archery. An entrance fee of $3 is charged Mon-Fri and $5 on Saturday & Sunday. Parking is available at the park as well as on the surrounding streets. Picnic Areas
Originally agricultural land, this massive urban park now features multiple golf courses, tennis courts, soccer fields, baseball and softball fields, two lakes, an archery range, and a wilderness area. It is also home to a group campground for youth groups, which is a great way to introduce kids to camping.
There are also a few picnic areas in the park where you can bring your own food and enjoy the scenery. The largest lake at Edinger and Euclid Streets has paddleboat rentals in the summer, and there are several paved trails that wind around the entire park if you want to take a leisurely stroll.
If you need to get off your feet, head over to Fountain Valley Skating Center for some roller skating fun. It’s a great place to practice your moves while enjoying some music and dancing with friends. They even host themed nights, so you can skate to your favorite retro hits.
Events
If you’re looking for a great way to spend an evening, head over to the Mile Square Regional Park and attend one of their free summer concerts. The concerts are held on Thursday nights during the months of June and July. Bring your chairs, blankets and enjoy the show.
The park also offers a wide variety of other recreational activities such as soccer, baseball, softball, and archery fields and picnic areas. Two fishing lakes, a concession-operated bike and paddle boat operation, and a large expanse of walking pathways are available as well.
The OC Parks Summer Concert Series is a popular event that is free to the public and takes place at several parks throughout Orange County. The concerts are family-friendly but beer and wine will be sold on-site. Other events include a free OC Tet Festival in January to celebrate the Year of the Cat and the Vietnamese New Year.
